Draper v De Minaur
Alex De Minaur ML (-137)
Going to make this write up short and sweet as I don’t have the typical laundry list facts to back my claim.
De Minaur owns the lifetime head-to-head between the two at 3-0, winning in 2022 at Wimbledon in four sets, winning in Tokyo in 2023 in three sets and most recently in Acapulco in three sets (Draper retired in the third set).
Not only does De Minaur own the head-to-head by a decent margin, but he has also looked very good in this US Open, dropping just three sets through four matches. Prior to the US Open he also made a good run at Wimbledon, his last tournament played prior to this one. Made it to the round of 16 before he had to withdraw due to an injury.
Although De Minaur is playing great tennis, Draper may be playing even better. Jack Draper has yet to drop a set and yet to go to a tie break in this year's US Open. Granted De Minaur will be a massive step up in completion to who he’s faced thus far but there are still some concerns due to him playing so well in the first four rounds.
While Drapers form has been immaculate, I do still think De Minaur is the better player and has shown that throughout their head-to-head matchups. I don’t think it will be a straight set victory for the Australian, but he should do enough to see himself through to the semifinals. GL.
