US Open Parlay
Carlos Alcaraz to win 3:0/Tiafoe & Shelton OVER 3.5 sets
Wanted to back both of these plays as singles when I saw these matches come out but as you can tell by the odds of the parlay they were way too juiced, so decided to combine them into a two leg parlay.
Starting with Alcaraz because his match is tonight and Tiafoe and Shelton don’t play until tomorrow afternoon. Alcaraz is coming off a first round win against Li. Tu where he won 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. After dropping the second set he was pure domination to end the match, dropping just 4 games total through those last two sets. Normally after dropping a set in the first round it would be wise to think that he may drop another set in the second round because he is facing a better player, but that is not the case. Alcaraz is just too good against the Netherlands man.
These two have played twice in their short careers with Alcaraz winning both matches and winning them pretty easily. 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 at the Australian Open (best of 5 format) and 6-4, 6-2 in Basel (best of 3 format). Granted these matches came in 2021 and 2022 but I think that only helps our cause because it is safe to say that Alcaraz’s game has only progressed in the last 2-3 years. I really don’t have too much else to say about this because Alcaraz is clearly the better player and should have this match wrapped up in just three sets. I hope I don't eat my words but I trust the history between these two and trust that Alcaraz will be performing at his peak. VAMOS!
Onto the second leg of this parlay, a match that should be much more completive and one that I’m really looking forward to watching. Shelton is favored and probably rightfully so as he is arguably the better player and he made it to the quarter finals in this very torunemnt last year, but Tiafoe is no slouch. Francis is fresh off a runner up to Jannik Sinner in the Cincinnati Open final just a few weeks ago and is looking to make another run at a title in New York.
These two have faced each other twice, once in 2023 at the US Open and once this season in Houston. Ben Shelton has won both matchups but both have gone more than the minimal sets. In 2023 at the US Open (best of 5) they went four sets with Shelton winning 6-2, 3-6, 7-6, 6-2 and went three sets in Houston (best of 3) with Shelton also winning that 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Both of these guys have talent to win this match and there isn’t really much that separate them, this is anyones match. Unless we get a god like performance from either player this is a slam dunk, I can’t see either guy folding and losing in straight sets.
This has the potential to go five sets and end under the sunset of New York City. Best of luck if tailing!
