The Open Championship Round 4
Xander Schauffele UNDER 71.5 (-115)
Scottie Scheffler OVER 70.5 (-110)
Both of these bets are the round 4 total scores. Par is 71, so Schauffele needs to finish his round at E or better & Scheffler needs to finish at E or worse.
Scheffler is still clearly the best golfer on the planet, and I normally wouldn’t be fading him, but I have to today. Scottie is still one of the few golfers under par but that doesn't tell the whole story, he is still under performing to his standards. Just 1 under in round 1, 1 under in round 2 and even par in round 3 he has yet to really light this course up. With just 9 birdies through 54 holes I don’t see him finding his stride in the final round where they are calling for 15+ MPH winds and some light rain.
Betting on Scheffler to shoot even par or worse in a major could turn out to be a stupid mistake but based off his L3 rounds at Royal Troon I have to follow the numbers and bet for Scottie to come up short in this championship.
Onto Xander, my pick to win this afternoon. Schauffele is coming off a 2 under round yesterday and just needs to finish par or better for this bet to cash. He went -2 in round 1, +1 in round 2 and -2 in round 3. The only reason I am backing him today was because of the line, not sure if I am missing something but to get him at this number was an automatic bet. He is one of the best golfers in the world and has showed his ability to go low in round 3, with him right in the hunt for the claret jug I think that will give him the extra motivation to come out and light this course up.
I like Xander to come out and win the tournament, at odds around +350 it’s worth a sprinkle. GL.
